Your wedding reception is the part of your wedding where you can drop all the formalities, let loose, and just have fun with the loved ones who came to celebrate you. This should be a fun time for the couple of honor, but a lot of times they spend the night worrying about how they, as the hosts, can keep the party going and keep their guests entertained. This week I wanted to share with you some fun party games and activities our Atlanta wedding photographers have learned over the years that will ease your worries and ensure your guests will have an amazing night!

The most popular activity at wedding receptions come from photo ops at various points throughout the night. A fun way to do this is, instead of the usual floral centerpieces, place digital cameras in the middle of every table so that guests can take photos throughout the night that you can then develop and keep. Your loved ones will have fun taking candid shots and capturing special moments from that night that might otherwise be missed among all the craziness. Another popular reception entertainment is a photo booth or photo station where guests can take souvenir photos. To top it off, you can set up a photo guest book where guests take a polaroid and stick it into a sort of scrapbook for the couple as opposed to signing their name.

There are also certain reception games you can play to get your guests involved and keep them engaged during your reception. One thing our couples do often is an “anniversary dance” where they have their DJ call up all married couples in attendance. The DJ then starts at one year and then goes on and on until they find the couple in attendance who has been married the longest. It makes for a very cool moment! There are also traditional party games that you can play, such as couples trivia, and you can have stations with activities like card games or darts or other carnival games. Also, if you are having an outdoor wedding you can set up some popular lawn games like corn hole toss or croquet.

Another great way that you can keep guests entertained during your reception is to hire performers. Hiring a live band to play music is the most common way people do this. The band can take song requests, play musical games, and interact with the guests. However, there are many other ways to do this too. For instance, you can invite a local dance troop to come and perform a routine during the reception and maybe even teach your guests some moves. If you’re having a very culturally-centered ceremony, you can choose a troop that can show your guests a dance from your culture, even. One of our Atlanta couples invited a magician to come and perform magic tricks during the reception, and another chose to have circus performers come and do their acts, which was really amazing! Hiring a performer for your reception is a great option to keep your guests entertained while supporting local artists.

Your reception is meant to be a fun celebration for you and your loved ones as you start the next chapter of your lives. As the host, you no doubt want your guests to have an amazing time.
