As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I know people can be self-conscious about getting their picture taken. However, your wedding is one of those events you’re going to want to document through photographs. To help ease the stress, here are a few surefire ways you can feel confident and look good in front of the camera.

1. Know Your Photographer.

Meeting your photographer before your session is always a good idea. This way you can establish a relationship and will feel more comfortable and relaxed during your shoot. Your photographers job is to make you feel relaxed and comfortable so that you look great in your photos, so put your trust in them.

2. Practice Your pose.

Plan out a few poses before you get to the shoot and practice them until you’re comfortable. That way, you can see which poses you like and don’t like and can make suggestions to the photographer. Plus, if you have a plan and know what to expect, you’ll feel less nervous and more in control.

3. Don’t Force Your face.

Let your face relax and don’t try to force a beauty pageant smile. If you relax your face you can avoid any furrowed brows or tight lines on the face. If you let your face relax, you can avoid looking stiff. One tip I learned is that if your cheeks hurt from smiling try smiling with your eyes!

4. Don’t Pile On The Makeup.

Sometimes the natural look is best when it comes to makeup. The camera lens and sunlight can distort color, plus you’ll be uncomfortable if your makeup is heavy on your face. All in all, a more subtle makeup palette is easier to work with and can bring out your natural beauty.

5. Use Confident Body language.

If you look confident, it can help you feel confident. Make sure you stand up straight and keep your chin up. This not only helps you look better, but standing taller can just make you feel more confident. Also, you’ll want to raise your arms slightly away from your side. This will make them look leaner and can help avoid broad shoulders in photos.

6. When in doubt, let out a laugh.

When you’re not sure what to do or you feel your face tightening up, let out a little laugh, even if it’s a fake one. This can help you stop and regroup while also letting everybody loosen up. Plus, it just may make for an amazing candid photo you’ll want to keep forever!
