When I meet with couples, the one thing they have in common is that they are overwhelmed. Once you announce that you’re getting married, you’ll no doubt get a boatload of well intended advice from family and friends. Your head may start swimming with all the details and information that comes with planning a wedding. However, if you keep in mind that it is a day meant to celebrate the love between two people then everything else gets put in perspective. Take a look at these three tips that I hope will help make your wedding day a little less stressful.

1. Communication is Key!

The biggest thing to remember when you plan a wedding is that you and your spouse need to communicate. This gets everyone on the same page on what each person wants. Go over all the details you can think of, such as how many guests you want, how many people you want in the wedding party, who to invite, if you want to see each other before hand and any thing in particular you want to include in your ceremony. One of the biggest decisions you should make with your spouse is to set a budget and stick to it! It will save you money and head aches down the road.

2. Delegate, Delegate, Delegate!

What can help with some of the stress, too, is to delegate certain details of the wedding. You can hire a wedding planner that can help you deal with the details of the wedding. They can help you when managing vendors and can even take care of logistics, making sure catering and set up all happen on schedule, so that you don’t have to worry about it during your ceremony. Sometimes, if you ask your wedding venue they can point you towards quality vendors they like working with. Of course, there’s always your loved ones, who will also be happy to help your big day go as smooth as possible.

3. Remeber: Its Your Wedding And You deserve To Have Fun!

The biggest problem I see, the one that causes the most stress in wedding planning, is outside influences. It may be a well meaning family member who has strong beliefs or friend who “knows how to throw a party!”. Once again this stress melts away when you and your spouse talk to each other and make the day what YOU want. Keep in mind that this is your moment that you are choosing to share with your loved ones and don’t worry about the opinions of others. After all, they’re not the ones getting married, you are and you deserve to have a wedding that you’ll love. When you let go of the opinions of others and focus more on what you want, you’re guaranteed to enjoy your wedding, as you should.
