This weeks blog is on my love of black and white wedding photography. As a Atlanta wedding photographer I love they way it has a timeless feel. You can’t really tell that it was taken yesterday or 50 years ago. It is like it automatically becomes a classic! It breaks down everything in to lights and darks. I started out as a illustrator and spent many of hours studying lights and darks. I still look at a photo shoot as capturing the right light. I always remember a dear old photographer friend of mind saying “ a armature photographer is always looking at his equipment and a true artist is looking at the light”. That is where Atlanta “Artistic” wedding photography came from.

As you can tell from the photo above that a black and white photograph has a film noir quality about it. It is mysterious. It gives the photo a different kind of feel sort stylish drama to it. It is nod to the classic movies of the 40’s such as the The Maltese Falcon and Kiss Me Deadly with such great actors as Humphrey Bogart.

When you take a black and white photograph it also gives it a documentary feel to it. As you can see from the wedding photograph from above the couple are not looking at the camera it is does not look posed. It looks as if the couple are not aware that photo is being taken. It is truly a candid moment shared between the bride and groom with no one around. These are the kind of wedding photos I love! Even the black tux is a classic. You can’t tell if the photo was taken last week or 50 years ago.

When you start to shoot photography you have to start with the light. As you can tell from the photo above I have a fondness of back lighting. It gives a very romantic ephemeral quality to it. It is almost like a shroud of light that frames the couple.

Thank you so much for visiting this Atlanta wedding photographer’s blog. I hope you keep coming back and seeing what we are up to! I would love to hear from you please drop me a line and I promise I will get back to you.

Thanks again,

David
