5 Poses To Ensure A Picture Perfect Engagement Session

Engagement photos serve many purposes. They can be used on a Save The Date card or in a wedding announcement in a newspaper. The engagement shoot can also be used as a practice session before the big day so the couple can get to know their photographer beforehand and see previews of what the pictures may look like. Either way, our Atlanta wedding photographers always try to bring their A-game when shooting engagement sessions and below are some poses that help them do just that.

1) The Embrace

Have your couple get close and snuggle up. This can be them touching foreheads, giving each other a big bear hug, or a sweet, sincere smooch. You can also have them bring a blanket to cozy up under together. This shot can be done in a variety of ways. The couple can be sitting down or standing up and it can be shot from close up, or far away if that makes the couple more comfortable. This is a classically simple shot where the couple looks completely natural and is the perfect ice breaker for the photo shoot.

2) Close Up On Rings

Have the bride hold out her ring hand, or have her lay her ring hand on top of her partners, and snap a close up of the gorgeous ring! You can really play with light a bit on this one to catch the maximum sparkle coming off the ring. You can also center the ring and make the couple in the background blurry, thus putting more focus on the ring. The ring is a symbol of the couple’s commitment, not to mention a big investment, so of course the bride would want to show it off and a photo is the perfect way to do that.

3) Fun Props

Another fun option is to have the couple pose with props. This can be a board or sign that acts as a “save the date”, favorite objects (like a favorite car) or even color bombs. In addition, if the weather doesn’t cooperate, you can simply add an umbrella. Adding in a prop gives the couple something to work with in the shot and can give their photos an extra oomph. It also let’s the couple personalize their photos and, if they go the “save the date” route, they have the perfect photos to use for their cards!

4) Personalized Themes

Before the shoot, you can have the couple decide on a theme. It may have something to do with a hobby they both love, such as games, books, or dancing, or a place that is meaningful to the couple. You can also choose a theme, such as rustic or modern, and include the couples furbabies to make it a true family-style feel. This will add an extra layer of meaning to the photos and can help the couple feel more relaxed and excited going into the session.

5) Proposal Reenactment

Another cool idea that you can do for the engagement shoot is recreate the couple’s proposal. A proposal is a very private, intimate moment so it’s likely the couple did not get any photos or videos taken during the moment. That being said, you can take the couple back to the spot where they got engaged and snap some photos of them reenacting how they popped the question. This is pretty simple to do and the couple will likely be so happy that they have captured the momentous occasion after all.
