This week’s wedding is Bob and Vickie. They are an older couple who found each other late in life. They have proven to this Atlanta wedding photographer that you are never too old for love!
Bob and Vickie got my name from Krista at Payne Corley House where I am their preferred wedding photographer. We had a conference call where I got to know a little about Bob and Vickie and their wedding plans. Bob was like a giddy school boy so excited to celebrate his love for Vickie with their families and friends.
On the day of the wedding Bob had arranged a stretch limo about 2 blocks long to pick up Vickie. Vickie arrived at Payne Corley with her son, who also served as the officiant, and grandkids, who were excited to ride in a fancy limo. Vickie and her son went upstairs to unload everything.and then she got ready with her daughter in-law. Vickie’s grandson went to the groom’s cottage. The grandson got dressed, and took advantage of the snacks. He said “I ate all the snacks and got a tummy ache but it was worth it!”
Later on Bob arrived and got dressed at the groom’s cottage. He arrived with a hand made glass rose for his bride. Once Bob was dressed we got into place for the first look at the Gazebo.
We arrived at the Gazebo and put Bob into place. He was facing me with his back towards the historic Payne Corley House where his bride was. I was texting the other photographe, who was Alex with the bride and she gave me status reports on what the bride was doing. While waiting I started a conversation with Bob. In those few minutes I learned that he lost his first wife to cancer. He also retired from the Air Force after 20 years, and then did 15 more years for UPS in Atlanta. In those moments I saw his passion for service and love for the people in his life. After his wife passed away he wanted to pursue things that kept him interested in life and kept him active. One of those pursuits was ballroom dancing. He told me how he became a competitive dancer and how he shared this passion with Vickie. Vickie was not going to be left behind and picked up dancing. She was a true natural. They participated in dance groups and shared a new set of friends. After the first look the couple had a few moments to talk and then it was time for the ceremony.
The ceremony took place in front of the Gazebo. Vickie’s son performed a heartfelt ceremony for his mom. You could feel that he was so happy that his mom was in a happy place and that she was going to spend time with someone she loved and adored.
After the ceremony it was time for the reception. Of course Bob and Vickie had a beautifully choreographed dance routine for the first dance. They spun and twirled on the dance floor with grace. They then danced with their kids. It was a special time that brought two families together.
After the reception and food it was time for the exit. The wedding party gathered outside with sparklers to send the newly weds off. They ran through the crowd and stopped periodically to kiss. They then got into the same stretch limo that Vickie arrived in and went on their honeymoon. It was a wonderful ending to a wonderful day.
