One of my favorite things as an Atlanta wedding photographer is to be invited to document important moments in people's lives. This week I was contacted by Neel who wanted to have a surprise proposal and ask his girlfriend of many years to marry him. He wanted to do it at Atlanta Botanical Gardens. We talked about logistics, and I put it on my calendar.

To give you a little background, the Atlanta Botanical Garden is located beside the historic Piedmont Park in Midtown. It was founded in 1976 as a non-profit to develop and maintain plant collections for the public and research. It covers about 30 acres and has a reception hall, greenhouse for touring, and many scenic trails for walking. Throughout the year they have many events that correspond with the seasons.

When the big day came, I went to Atlanta Botanical Gardens early to the location Neel picked out. I put two discrete pieces of tape on the ground on the spot where he wanted to propose, so that he would know where to stand so I could get the best shot. I tucked myself away from the action so I could capture the big moment without being intrusive. After about 15 minutes I see them nervously come up to the spot. Neel looks around and sees me. He knows this is the moment. He did a real professional move here. He bent over and took the ring out of his sock! Then he gracefully got on one knee and proposed. She said yes! It was a beautiful moment. They both giggled and soaked in the historic moment in their lives.

When I talked to Neel, he said he wanted to have a quick photo session after the proposal. We traveled around the park and took some photos by the trails, rose garden and entrance. Since we were so close to Piedmont Park, we decided to take advantage of that and walked over there for some Atlanta skyline photos. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day.
