Atlanta Wedding Photographers Share Historic ...

As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I get to shoot at some amazing locations. As some of you may know I am involved in historic preservation and I love historic venues. This week we are going to cover some of my favorite historic places of worship in Atlanta. I am also sharing a map of the historic churches, temples and synagogues in Atlanta. I hope you enjoy this little tour as much as I do.

The Temple, established in 1860 to serve the needs of the German-Jewish immigrants, is the only non-Christian historic house of worship in Midtown. The neoclassical Temple was designed by noted Atlanta classicist Philip Trammell Shutze in 1931. While dramatically scaled back from the pre-Depression plans, the sanctuary takes cues from Venetian churches Shutze saw while studying in Rome. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, The Temple was a center for civil rights advocacy. Its civil rights role was one of the central themes in the movie Driving Miss Daisy.

I have a true passion for historic buildings.  During the past 20 years I have worked as art director for some the largest historic consulting firms in the southeast.   Around the Metro Atlanta are we are so luck to have such unique historic properties.  I have been lucky enough to photograph at historic locations all around Atlanta such as the Georgia Terrace, Atlanta History Center, several weddings at the Fox Theater, the Braselton-Stover House, Little Gardens in Lawrenceville, the Carl House, Primrose Cottage in historic Roswell, Georgia and Cedar Plantation in Acworth, Georgia Cottage, Lawrenceville Court house, two weddings at the historic Trolley Barn in downtown Atlanta.  I just love these historic locations.  It brings so much character to the occasion.

I can’t say enough about the Braselton Stover House.  It is managed by Mary and Marvin Stover. They are wonderful people that will make your wedding memorable.  I always look forward to shooting a wedding there because I know that it has so many things going for it.  One the house is beautiful!   Along with the grounds make it one the best deals around Atlanta! Second is with Mary there you know you are working with a team of professionals that will do their best to give you the wedding you want.

Child Portraits and the joy they give everyone

Recently I was given the honor of making a portrait of a good friend of mines family and specifically their daughter.  They are so sweet.  The dad is a dear friend of mine who I give a hard time constantly at work because of begrudgingly attitude that he tries to project. I really enjoyed see all that melt away and see the real him as he interacts with his family.  The way he melts when his little girl smiles at him.  Also how he learns that 1 year old little girls have their own time line and that we can not rush them or change their minds with a wave our hand.
Doing this photo shoot reminded me one the thing that got me into photography and historical documentation  in the first place.  It is a sort of time capsule of a people's lives. I feel so honored to be part of it.  I know that the mother and father will look back at it and fondly reminisce on how tiny their little girls hands were or how they spent so much time picking out a little outfit that fitted her for only 3 months.   The child will years from now will complain how fat their cheeks where or how the outfit looks so dated.   In about 50 years the child will look back and point at the photograph and say "I was a cute baby!" and their kids and grand kids will look into the photograph for glimpses of their selves such as mom's nose or dads eyes.
This is a honor that I do not take lightly.   I feel so blessed to be part of each families documentary and portraits that will be part of the time line of generations to come. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all!

Indian Wedding in Atlanta, Georgia

As a Atlanta Wedding Photographer it is a honor to photograph so many different weddings.  This month I got to photograph Oma's and Terry's Wedding Party in Atlanta.  I we had so much fun!  Since they had already gotten married in New York City they wanted to have a party here for their friends in Georgia.  The party was in Atlanta.
The coolest thing we did was do a sort of engagement shoot / wedding portrait.  Since they were both Indian I suggested the Hindu Temple in Lilburn as the back drop.  It worked beautifully!!!! Fall in Atlanta is a great time for Engagement Photos

Wow the colors are out in Atlanta!  I am such a fan of this time of year as a wedding photographer.  Just take some time and look around and and soak in the color.  This week in November is at it's peek.  From Stone Mountain to Piedmont Park are all great places for your engagement photos.  The rich yellows and oranges are just popping out!  I recently had a photo shoot and was so happy with the results. Fall Colors for Your Wedding

Fall is a wonderful time of year to get married.  It is not too hot or too cold.  As a Atlanta wedding photographer I have seen some wonderful fall wedding.  I love the wonderful warm colors of the fall weddings.  It really like the orange and reds of the flowers.  It also seems to make the wedding a little homey and warmer.

October a Great Month to get Married in the South

When is it a good time of year to get married?  It is up to you but you shouldn't fell obligated to get married in June like everyone else and battle over booked photographers and venues in Atlanta.  There are other options for you.  I my self got married New Years eve because I knew my family would be in town and I wanted to share my wedding with them.  October is a great time also.  It is a cooler than the summer months in Georgia.  It is not too cold either.  When everyone is wearing suits it is a perfect month!  In closing just don't limit your options.  It is your wedding so make it so.

Great wedding dances

Hello everyone! I always enjoy the first dance.  It has become so much more than the conservative slow dance of ages past.  It has now become such a fun and entertaining part of the day! As  a professional wedding photographer I see a lot of weddings.   When I talk to the brides after wards they all say the day just happened so quickly!  I can say when there are so many things going on constantly and it happened so fast it is important to take a little time and look around.  When you are looking just take a breath and appreciate the moment.  I guarantee that you will see people that love you, have helped you in the past and will support you in the future.  That is the point of the wedding sharing your commitment to your spouse with the people that are the most important to you.

Historic Color Photography

I know I usually blog about wedding photography in Atlanta.  Today I am going to blog about something else I am interested in and that is history.  During the day I work for a historical and archaeological consulting firm.  I have been doing this for about 20 years.  I have always had this interest in historical photography.  I my self still use large format photograph to document such things as NASA and historical properties in the southeast united states.

When recently one of my friends in the archaeology field posted this on their facebook page I had to share it!  Just go to http://blogs.denverpost.com/captured/2010/07/26/captured-america-in-color-from-1939-1943/ and you will see some of the coolest historical photographs ever!  I have not seen so many color historical photographs in one place.  Color photography really tells the story. In the photographs you can tell what they are eating, where they live and what the general condition of their housing is.  I have shared one of the photos from the collection on my blog but take your time and visit it yourself and enjoy!

Great Wedding with Baseball Theme!

As a professional wedding photographer in Atlanta I get all kinds of questions.  From where should we do engagement sessions or what ideas do you have for favors at the wedding?   In all those cases I would say let them express yourself and you will the happiest with them. 

This weekend I photographed a wedding and the groom was a baseball player from Georgia Southern.  So the them was baseball.  They were such a great and giving couple.  What they did  with their baseball theme was put out cracker jacks and peanuts.  It was inexpensive, original, a lot of fun and expressed how they meet.  The favors where very well received and I saw people admiring them and munching all night long.

So remember to express yourself it is your wedding!

Beautiful Locations for Photography in Atlanta

I recently shot a engagement shot at Piedmont Park in downtown Atlanta. When I am working at a shot I am always looking at how to give some variety to my shots.  That way it breaks up the shot and the couple get some different shots.  It also keeps the couple fresh.  When working at the park I got their early to beat the Atlanta heat.  When we got there then we had the large open spaces to ourselves.  That way we could use these spaces and have the Atlanta skyline in the background.  We also had a small pone to work with for a splash of color.  On top of that we also had some great architectural elements for a resource.  We had the historic bridge, columns, gazebos and walkways to add to our photos.
For taking photos in Atlanta Piedmont Park is a great resource!

How to look good in Wedding Photos

Hey everyone I hope that everyone had a great weekend.  I recently came across this article.  I am always looking for ways to take the best photos.  After reading this article it really hit home with some very simple tips on how to look better in photos.  The best tip I saw that brides and brides maids can do is extend their arms away from their sides so their arms don't look so large.  Take a few minutes and look at this very informative article.

What a great year for Atlanta Weddings!

This year has been great!  I want to say thank you to all the bride and grooms that have made it so.  I have been honored to work  for so many this year.  It has been a truly a blessing to document their wedding day. 

During weddings I have been witness to so many special moments.  Like being invited to pray with bridal party before they walk down the isle.  The special moment when a daughter is walking down the isle with their father.   It is always great to see families come together and support one another!

Fall wedding ideas

Well guys I hope that you have enjoyed your holidays this weekend.  I wanted to share with you a article that I found for "fall weddings ideas" located at http://www.ehow.com/list_5814663_theme-ideas-october-weddings.html. I thought I would post this since this week I have had 3 requests for wedding photography in Atlanta during the month of October this week.
I have done several weddings in October.  I personally think that the weather around Atlanta in October is perfect for weddings.  It is not too hot and not too cold.  The only thing you have to worry about is daylight savings time when you do plan your photography.

Great place for engagement photos Piedmont Park Atlanta

I just recently shot a engagement session at Piedmont Park in downtown Atlanta you can see photos of the session at http://atlantaartisticweddings.com/proof/june%2012%202010/.   The couple were great!  We had so many wonderful places to shoot.  There is the historic bridge, flowers in bloom, gazebo, water and the Atlanta skyline for a backdrop!  The one thing I would say is to get there early if you are going to shoot in the summer because it does get crowded and it does get hot!
