Hello everyone! Thank you so much for coming by my blog. This week I am going to talk about my style of wedding photography. If you have been following me and my photography you have noticed a thread going thorough most of my favorite photos. What enjoy are the photos the capture a candid emotion in a sort of photo-documentary style. The other thing is I like is back-lighting. I love the halo effect it makes and also give a romantic quality to the photos.

First let’s tackle photo documentary wedding photography. This is a term that has been used a lot in the last few years. I think I have been doing it this throughout my whole career as an Atlanta wedding photographer. When I meet the bride and groom I always say that I do not look at a clock but document their wedding day from the beginning of the day until everyone is waving them good bye at the wedding exit. I approach their photography as a photo documentary of their wedding day. I will capture the getting ready shots with the guys and I have Sarah capture the getting ready shots of the bride and bridesmaids. We always send out a wedding day checklist so we capture everything that you want. We don’t want to miss a detail shot of your grandmother’s necklace or that special guest who travels miles to get to your wedding and who is such an important person in your life.

The second thing I love is back lighting! If you know me that is why shoot early in the morning to get that light that is low in the sky. So you will get that romantic back lighting or rim light when you are doing the portraits and engagement photos. There are also some great things if you know where to look for the light in Atlanta. As you can see from this portrait from above the natural back lighting of the subject only lasted a few minutes.

The great thing about shooting with Sarah Newman is that we are a team. She is a very talented photographer but we can also approach lighting at a team. Some of my best shots have Sarah lighting them and would not have happened without them.

The backlighting technique I have been perfecting through the years has become my signature. I love using back lighting from portable flashes for a couple of reasons. One they are very versatile and can be mobile during a wedding. As a Atlanta wedding photographer lighting and venues are constantly changing and I have to be ready for every one of those situations. So we can give you a second flash during a wedding exit and during the first dance as you can see here. This technique really makes your wedding photography stand out from others out there.
