I you have been following me you know how much I love wedding photography and helping bride grooms by documenting their special day. The first piece of advice I give every Atlanta bride and groom is that is YOUR DAY.
If you keep the mantra that this is (OUR DAY) I think things go a lot smoother. It helps you clean up the clutter of other’s well intentioned ideas. These ideas are what they would do but this is your wedding and this is what you two need to talk over and decide.

Now there will be millions of decisions to be made. They all don’t have to be done at once. They can be made at different stages of the game. I suggest starting with the basics like when and where do you want to get married. Once you decide on those two things a lot other things will come together. Like if you are planning a cool fall wedding then you know that you will have to dress warmer. If you have having a wedding in the mountains then you will need to plan on how your guests will get around steep slopes and stairs. You will also want to have an honest conversation about your budget. This will help you decided venues and how many guests you want to invite. Because basically you will be paying per person. You will be paying food per person and drinks per person.

When picking the venue look at your guest list so you will know how big of a venue you need. You will also need to know how many guests will be coming from out of town and if you need to find a hotel close enough to the venue to make things easier on your guests.

Choosing a wedding venue sets the tone for your whole day—think of it as the first brushstroke on your wedding-day canvas. Start by imagining the mood you want: intimate and vintage, airy and modern, or relaxed and outdoors. Practical questions matter too—guest capacity, lighting for photography, noise restrictions, and weather contingencies. Look for spaces with character that complement candid, documentary-style images: natural light, textured backdrops, and quiet corners for private moments. Visit at the same time of day you’ll celebrate to see true light and flow. Prioritize venues that feel comfortable and authentic to you; when the space reflects your story, your photos will too—natural, timeless, and full of honest emotion.

Once we get these place and time worked out then a lot of things become are very pragmatic. Start looking at photographer’s and caterers to see who is available. If you check people’s availability then the list gets narrowed down. Then you check prices to narrow it down more.
Another thing to think about for cateriers you can use your favorite restaurant! May it be BBQ or burritos get the food you love from the place you and your friends eat it. Once again make it simple.
Food is one of the most memorable parts of a wedding—it's comfort, celebration, and a way to honor your story together. Start by deciding the vibe you want: intimate family-style, lively buffet, elegant plated service, or late-night food trucks. Taste-test early and bring a few trusted friends or family members to help you judge. Consider dietary restrictions and provide clear labels so guests with allergies or preferences feel seen. Portioning matters—work with your caterer to ensure there’s enough for every course and some extra for late-night cravings. Don’t forget timing: coordinate with your photographer and timeline so food service and toasts flow without rushed plates or cold entrees. Finally, add a personal touch—family recipes, a signature cocktail, or a beloved local vendor—to make your meal feel uniquely yours. Good food makes great memories; plan it well and you’ll savor the day long after the last bite.
