Wedding Photographer Shares Insight to Atlanta Indian Weddings

This week I am going to cover Indian weddings. As an Atlanta wedding photographer I have had the honor of photographing several Indian weddings and Hindu ceremonies. They are beautiful and intricate weddings. When I shot my first Indian wedding, I had to do a lot of research to know the customs and how to photograph such a busy day.

Atlanta wedding Photographers Capture Intimate Ceremony at Emory University Campus

This week’s wedding is Sarah and Cole. Sarah contacted me a few months ago. Sarah told me that she was graduating from Emory and wanted a small ceremony of a few friends and family.  As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I love the Emory campus.  There are so many photo locations for wedding photography. Like the Glenn Memorial Church Little Chapel.  It is behind the larger church when you enter campus. It is perfect for intimate ceremonies like Sarah and Cole.

This week’s photo session is an Atlanta wedding photography classic.  The couple’s wedding is in October and they wanted their engagement photos to have that Atlanta flavor by shooting at city landmarks that give that urban feel.  Liz and Ben are international travelers and appreciate the energy a city can bring.

Atlanta Wedding Photographer Captures Engagement Photos At The Historic Callanwolde Arts Center

Atlanta Wedding Photographer Captures Engagement Photos At The Historic Callanwolde Arts Center

This week’s couple is Aaron and V.  They met a few years ago and there was an immediate connection.  The relationship grew along with their love for each other. They were together in Atlanta for four years and now because of Aaron's job they are in two different cities.  Aaron is in south Georgia and V is still in Atlanta and together they are  making it work!  They have such a wonderful partnership where they complement each other wonderfully.

They are getting ready to have their wedding in India and they wanted a few photos before the ceremony there.  They contacted me a few weeks ago.  When Aaron called me it was cold and rainy which is typical for this time of year.  I suggested an indoor location.  We agreed on Callanwolde Arts Center in Atlanta.

Atlanta Wedding Photographers Share Historic Places of Worship

Atlanta Wedding Photographers Share Historic Places of Worship

As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I get to shoot at some amazing locations. As some of you may know I am involved in historic preservation and I love historic venues. This week we are going to cover some of my favorite historic places of worship in Atlanta. I am also sharing a map of the historic churches, temples and synagogues in Atlanta. I hope you enjoy this little tour as much as I do.

The Temple, established in 1860 to serve the needs of the German-Jewish immigrants, is the only non-Christian historic house of worship in Midtown. The neoclassical Temple was designed by noted Atlanta classicist Philip Trammell Shutze in 1931. While dramatically scaled back from the pre-Depression plans, the sanctuary takes cues from Venetian churches Shutze saw while studying in Rome. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, The Temple was a center for civil rights advocacy. Its civil rights role was one of the central themes in the movie Driving Miss Daisy.

The Complementary Color Wheel of Talent at Atlanta Artistic Weddings

The Complementary Color Wheel of Talent at Atlanta Artistic Weddings

I am so lucky to be a part of such a talented team. As some of you know I started out in the art field, thus the name Atlanta Artistic Weddings. When you start out in art one of the first things they teach you is the color wheel. If you don’t know what a color wheel is, it is a circle with slices of color, starting with the primary colors on the opposite sides of the circle. Then you have a mix of the colors in between the primary. The first mix is the secondary colors such as when you mix red and yellow and get orange. The colors on the opposite sides of the wheel are called complementary colors because they go well together and complement each other, like blue and yellow. I think of our team as the color wheel. Our talents compliment each other.

Atlanta Wedding Photographers Capture A Celebration Two Years In The Making

Atlanta Wedding Photographers Capture A Celebration Two Years In The Making

The ceremony was held inside the chapel. The Atlanta wedding photographers captured a mixed ceremony based on Sri Lanka culture. Sri Lanka is an island south of the Indian mainland. Since it is an island it has a rich history of international trade that influences the many religions that are practiced there. It was a beautiful ceremony. The bridesmaids sang a traditional song and there was even a person playing the conch shell. The couple fed each other and shared the cup of life. The two families exchanged gifts and the ceremony ended with the minister chopping a coconut in half!

Atlanta Wedding Photographer Catches A Proposal On Top Of The World!

Atlanta Wedding Photographer Catches A Proposal On Top Of The World!

A couple of weeks ago, this guy named AJ contacted me. He wanted me to photograph him proposing to his girlfriend on the Helipad on the roof of Vantanas. It was going to be a total surprise to her!

It was going to take a lot of planning to pull something like this off, so this Atlanta Wedding Photographer contacted Vantanas to work out the logistics and timing. The plan was for him to pretend to take his girlfriend out to eat. He would go to Centennial Park and the ferris wheel then across the park to Vantanas, where he would tell her that he has access to the roof there and its beautiful view of the city.

Historic Naylor Hall Is A Great Venue For Weddings!

Historic Naylor Hall Is A Great Venue For Weddings!

This week’s weddings took place at my favorite venue, Naylor Hall. I love Naylor Hall for many reasons. One it is one of the most beautiful venues around Atlanta. It has a certain southern charm but also grandeur. The favorite thing about Naylor Hall is the people who work there. They could not be more gracious and welcoming to their guests.

What an Honor Being A Atlanta Wedding Photographer! I get to capture a Paebaek Ceremony!

What an Honor Being A Atlanta Wedding Photographer! I get to capture a Paebaek Ceremony!

The ceremony was held in the parents living room. They had set up the folding screen, sitting area, mat and table. The table had food towers with candles for decoration. The nine foods were on the table representing the couple’s life long union. There were dates on the table symbolizing the couple rising early and working hard. There were also bags of chestnuts to help ward off evil spirits. Parents sat on one side of the table and the couple sat on the other side of the table. On the couples side of the table was a tea set for serving. On the parents side were several cups for being served. While the parents are being served the take turns offer advice and blessings to the bridal couple. They also give the the couple white envelopes containing money to help them on their new journey. It is important that the bride and groom receive any gifts with two hands, rather than just one, to show respect.

As an Atlanta wedding photographer, it is an honor to capture so many cultures and customs. This week I had the privilege of shooting a wedding between a bride of Christian faith and a groom of Muslim faith. They mixed ceremony details and traditions from each religion, which was truly beautiful to see. It was truly a celebration of life, culture, and the love this couple has for each other.
