Modern Manfrotto tripod mounted with Classic Speedgraphic Camera with Rapax lens for large format black and white film photography
This weeks wedding is Josh and Emily. They currently live in San Francisco, California but are originally from Georgia. They met at Georgia Tech where both are computer science majors. When they decided to get married they choose a central location for everyone. Atlanta and the Calenwolde Arts Center.
When I first met Josh he told me he was a photographer too and that he saw where I still used film for my large format projects. He asked if I could take so me large format photos using 4 inch by 5 inch film at his wedding. I told him that wanted to use an old Speed Graphic camera.

Using film is a lost art and takes a lot of time and preparation. The large format cameras are heavy and they need a tripod to hold them since they also need to have a longer exposure. I used to use an old heavy 40 year old tripod. I recently switch to a newer versatile Manfrotto 3-Section Tripod in Carbon Fiber with carbon fiber. Which is sooo much better than my old tripod.

Manfrotto 3-Section Tripod in Carbon Fiber, Camera Tripod, is a dream to work with! The first think I love about this tripod is how light it is! When you are carrying around a heavy large format camera you don’t need the extra wight of bulky tripod. Not only is it light but it is made with some of the strongest material out there Carbon Fiber. It is fast to set up and very versatile with the center post being able to be adjusted for additional height. The legs can be quickly snapped into position too. That way you don’t spend a lot of time setting up and making your subject wait.
It is so cool using the old speed graphic camera at the wedding. The Speed Graphic camera was produced in New York from 1912 to 1973. It was such a great design that there were not that many major changes. Think about that. A simple camera design that was used for 60 years still produces high quality images that are in museums. The camera was used by newspaper reporters, FBI , and documented wars.
