Atlanta Wedding Photographers Share Historic ...

As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I get to shoot at some amazing locations. As some of you may know I am involved in historic preservation and I love historic venues. This week we are going to cover some of my favorite historic places of worship in Atlanta. I am also sharing a map of the historic churches, temples and synagogues in Atlanta. I hope you enjoy this little tour as much as I do.

The Temple, established in 1860 to serve the needs of the German-Jewish immigrants, is the only non-Christian historic house of worship in Midtown. The neoclassical Temple was designed by noted Atlanta classicist Philip Trammell Shutze in 1931. While dramatically scaled back from the pre-Depression plans, the sanctuary takes cues from Venetian churches Shutze saw while studying in Rome. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, The Temple was a center for civil rights advocacy. Its civil rights role was one of the central themes in the movie Driving Miss Daisy.

Dr. Who Wedding! in honor of the new Doctor

As a Atlanta wedding photographer I have the honor of doing some very unique weddings.  On one occasion it was a Dr. Who themed wedding.  I am including a detail of the bouquet.  If you are looking at and wondering what it is, it is a sonic screw driver!  This was such a fun wedding.  I just love it when a bride and groom make such a bold statement and have fun at their wedding!  Because that is what it is all about!  Having fun at your wedding!

Dr. Who and the Tradis Wedding Cake Topper by atlantaartisticweddings


Hi folks! In case you didn't know I am a huge Dr. Who fan!  I have been watching it since Tom Baker and his companions.  Last year I meet a wonderful couple and one of the first questions they had for me was "do you like Dr. Who?".  Right then I knew this was going to be a awesome wedding!  They had a Doctor Who themed wedding.  The bouquet was a sonic screw driver, the topper on the cake was a Tardis and they had Jelly Babies for snacks!!! It was one of my favorite weddings ever!

As a Atlanta wedding photographer it is my honor to photograph many weddings in Decatur, Dunwoody, Roswell, and many historic venues.  The first thing I look for when I am at any of these places is lighting.  I look for sources of lighting within the facility and out side the wedding venue.  As many of you know that I love natural lighting and I shoot quickly and as efficiently as I can. 

When shooting inside I am looking at the location of windows and doors.  They are great sources of diffused light!  I just love using them!  Depending on how you use them you can have very diffused flattering light or have some very dramatic lighting.  When you use doors you can back light your subject or shoot from the side and have some great diffused light.  The same goes for windows except they can be tricky depending on the location of furniture in the room and what curtains they use.

When shooting outside of a wedding venue I am looking for even and also dramatic lighting.  I also ask the venue for insight to how their lights work outside so I will know how to modify them to their best use.  In this particular shot the venue they had these chandeliers hanging from the tree in front of the Atlanta wedding venue. So what I did when the sun went down I go that area and place them close to the chandelier and use a little fill flash and boom there you go a very romantic pose with some dramatic lighting.  I also want to say that the couple were great!!! They were very open to any ideas I had. 

So in closing all when you look at a photograph it is all  about the lighting, the lighting, the lighting!
