Covid Delayed Wedding Finally Happens!

I have talked to other Atlanta wedding photographers and people in the wedding business. During the Covid lockdown a lot of things changed and had to be rescheduled because of it. This week’s wedding is over 2 years in the making. They were planning on a small wedding with just friends and family right when Covid started. A half a year later the bride's father and mother got Covid and was hospitalized. Then the groom’s mom got sick and passed away. To say that it has been a rough couple of years would be an understatement. I will say though that they are closer and more mature than most couples i’ve seen because of all they have endured.

I was so looking forward to this wedding! It was a morning wedding and I arrived at Primrose Cottage about a half an hour early. Since I have not shot there in a while nor Have I ever shot there in the morning I wanted to scope things out. I was looking for good places with optimal lighting. While walking around I got to meet Leah Spain, the wedding director for the day. I was so lucky to run into her. I always say when you are an Atlanta wedding photographer you are on a wedding team. Leah was truly a team player who knew how to communicate, and handle everything with grace. As you may know things do not always go as planned at weddings and Leah knew how to monitor and adjust like a real pro!

Marianna the bride arrived at Primrose with her mom and 3 sisters first. They unloaded everything and went upstairs to the beautiful and spacious bridal room that Primrose has. I took some detail shots of the dress before she put it on. While she was getting dressed I borrowed the rings for a detail shot of those. Throughout the house they had these bottles of wine for people to sign. They got the wine from a vineyard that they went to on their favorite date, so I thought it would be appropriate to have the rings with their favorite wine that only gets better with age.

While she was getting ready I went to do a few shots with the guys. While there I got to see Logan the groom hand out his gifts to the guys. Since Logan is in the Air Force he handed out their gifts in customized ammo boxes with their names on them. In the box were handkerchiefs, shot glasses, and everything a good groomsman would need. It was a very unique and thoughtful gift.

After everyone was dressed we were ready for the first look. We went to the back of Primrose and did a first look with the bride and he dad then we did a first look with the groom. Since we had a few minutes once we finished the first look we went around and took a few photos. There are so many little nooks and crannies for photo opportunities. There are the columns in the front entrance, patio in the back with two cute arbors, a little nature area to the south side of the house, and the house itself which is stunning! We took a few photos out front and moved to the back when guests started to arrive.

The ceremony started at 11am and everyone lined up in the house. As they were lined up they had Laurel Katheryn playing the harp as the guests went to their seats. The ceremony was performed by a family friend and she did a great job. The groom walked down the aisle with a bouquet in honor of his mom. Marianna and Logan did their own vows. It was very sweet and heartfelt, filled with humor and love.

After the ceremony came the reception. There was the first dance that was very touching. Then came the father/daughter and mother/son dances. Finally there were the speeches from the best man and maid of honor. After all that there was a surprise performance from the bride's sisters that got everyone to their feet dancing! The sister’s came out and mimed Queen’s” Bohemian Rhapsody'' then morphed into a fun version “We are family”. Then as with all good things they must come to an end. There was supposed to be an exit with a classic car but due to some scheduling conflicts it was not supposed to be there until 5 hours later. However with Leah’s quick thinking we got one of the guests sports cars for the exit! It was a great ending to a beautiful wedding!

As an Atlanta wedding photographer at Atlanta Artistic Weddings I get excited when a bride and groom choose a location that is unique and reflects their personality. May it be a historical venue that reflects their love of the old city or you want a venue that has great views of the modern city and historic park.

Delta Flight Museum, is a venue that is very unique and is a symbol of modern Atlanta.

As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I get to shoot at some amazing locations. As some of you may know I am involved in historic preservation and I love historic venues. This week we are going to cover some of my favorite historic places of worship in Atlanta. I am also sharing a map of the historic churches, temples and synagogues in Atlanta. I hope you enjoy this little tour as much as I do.

The Temple, established in 1860 to serve the needs of the German-Jewish immigrants, is the only non-Christian historic house of worship in Midtown. The neoclassical Temple was designed by noted Atlanta classicist Philip Trammell Shutze in 1931. While dramatically scaled back from the pre-Depression plans, the sanctuary takes cues from Venetian churches Shutze saw while studying in Rome. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, The Temple was a center for civil rights advocacy. Its civil rights role was one of the central themes in the movie Driving Miss Daisy.

I am so lucky to be a part of such a talented team. As some of you know I started out in the art field, thus the name Atlanta Artistic Weddings. When you start out in art one of the first things they teach you is the color wheel. If you don’t know what a color wheel is, it is a circle with slices of color, starting with the primary colors on the opposite sides of the circle. Then you have a mix of the colors in between the primary. The first mix is the secondary colors such as when you mix red and yellow and get orange. The colors on the opposite sides of the wheel are called complementary colors because they go well together and complement each other, like blue and yellow. I think of our team as the color wheel. Our talents compliment each other.

Ringing The Wedding Bells: A Guide To Celtic Wedding Traditions

by Heather Towhey

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

This past year, our Atlanta wedding photographers got to capture a wedding with traditional Scottish/Irish elements and customs. The ceremony was fun and heartfelt and just a great time for all. Our photographers learned a lot about the Celtic customs that were incorporated into the ceremony, which really highlighted the fact that many of these traditions are not widely known. That being said, this week we sat down, did some research, and are ready to walk you through a few of these interesting and meaningful Celtic traditions.

This week’s wedding is Giovana and Cameron who finally had their wedding with their family at The Atlanta Georgia Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Cameron met Giovana during his mission trip to Brazil. They had to postpone for a couple of years because of COVID and immigration issues.

Cameron contacted me about two weeks ago with a sort of strange request. He told me that he and Giovana have been married for a few months but they never had a photo shoot or a formal wedding at their Temple. Giovana wanted a few photos of the two of them in a tux and a wedding dress. We made plans to meet early Saturday morning at the Temple before it got too hot.

This week’s couple is Abbie and Tyler. They have been dating for many years and finally tying the knot at Abbie’s family’s church St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the reception was at 9 Oaks Farm.

The day started out at 9 Oaks Farm which is a rustic farm between Athens and Lawrenceville. It has a large reception hall, houses where guests can stay, large pastures, milking station, long walking paths, and a small covered bridge. When Alex and I arrived at 9 Oaks we split up. Alex went with the girls for their getting ready shots while I started with the guys at the reception hall. The guys were a blast, laughing and cutting up the whole time. Once the bride was ready we did a first look with her dad. It was a very sweet moment for the two. We were a little short on time so after the first look we went to the church for the wedding.

Atlanta Wedding Photographers Capture An Avondale Love Story

by David Diener

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

This week’s wedding is Rachel and Aaron.  Two people who found love in the theater department in college.  They are a sweet couple who had their wedding at two historic locations in Avondale and Decatur.

It is always a good idea to have two Atlanta wedding photographers on your wedding day especially if you have two getting ready locations.   You also get more coverage that way and you can get some nice lighting effects.  Check the exit shot at the end of this blog. Sarah started with Rachel and I started with Aaron.

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

I started with the guys at Aarons place in Avondale estates. There were a couple of old college buddies and theater friends there who seemed like really sweet and thoughtful guys.   After they got dressed  they went to the kitchen where the groom's gifts were.  Aaron passed out the gifts and inside the gift bag was one of the coolest and most thoughtful gifts that I have seen in a long time.  Aaron made these wooden cabinets for bluetooth speakers.  They were beautifully made and each one was made of different kinds of wood.

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

After the guys got ready we went to the historic Avondale Clubhouse. There we finished up the ladies' photos and got ready for the first look.  We tucked Rachel away in the clubhouse before Aaron arrived.   We then set up Aaron outside facing away from the clubhouse towards the pond.  Then it was Rachel’s cue to come outside and tap Aaron on the shoulder which was Aaron’s cue to turn around.  When he did turn around it was an emotional moment for sure.  We took a few photos and gave them a moment to themselves.

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

After the first look we went to the historic  Decatur First United Methodist Church, which was first founded in 1823.  The wedding took place in the sanctuary built in 1922.  It is a beautiful sanctuary with plenty of room for our intimate wedding party.  Guests started arriving and were escorted by the groomsmen.  When the wedding started we had some of the cutest flower girls coming down the aisle. The bride entered last escorted by her father.  It was a touching ceremony with a splattering of humor thrown in from the minister. After the wedding it was reception time!

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

The reception was held at the Avondale Clubhouse.  There we took a few more photos outside around the pond and bridge on the property.  We even snuck out at the blue hour and did some more photos then.  It was a lot of fun!  After the cake cutting and the dancing there was a sparkler exit.  The couple drove away in a brand new Corvette!  It was the perfect ending to a perfect day!

One of the great things about a city like Atlanta is the diversity! Our Atlanta wedding photographers get to meet all kinds of folks in their line of work and are always honored to learn about the different cultures and communities in Atlanta. Atlanta Artistic Weddings recently shot a super fun traditional Mexican wedding at the wonderful Naylor Hall and it made me curious to learn more about the culture. This week’s wedding is Bob and Vickie. They are an older couple who found each other late in life. They have proven to this Atlanta wedding photographer that you are never too old for love!

Bob and Vickie got my name from Krista at Payne Corley House where I am their preferred wedding photographer. We had a conference call where I got to know a little about Bob and Vickie and their wedding plans. Bob was like a giddy school boy so excited to celebrate his love for Vickie with their families and friends.

Southern Wedding Traditions You May Not Have Known About

by Heather Towhey

Photo by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

Since our photographers are based in Atlanta, we’ve had our fair share of Southern weddings. Like so many other places, the South has created it’s own cultural identity, complete with traditions and rituals to follow when celebrating milestones. Southern weddings especially come with their own unique customs that give them a sense of Southern charm, and our Atlanta wedding photographers have seen it all. We’ve explored some of these traditions a little further and this week we wanted to lay out the history and reasoning behind the most popular traditions at Southern weddings.

Atlanta Wedding Photographers Shoot A Wedding From The Heart!

by David Diener

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtsiticWeddings

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtsiticWeddings

I have known Amanda since she was a little girl. Her father, Reverend Russ Weekley is the pastor of my church I attend. They are a wonderful family full of love and laughter! I got to know Kenny at our engagement session we did a few months back. He is such an outstanding man who has a wonderful heart and is full of kindness towards others. They come from two great families. The only family member I did not meet that I hope to is the new pup they adopted, who is cute as a button!

I would call this a rustic wedding. It took place outside of town at Stoney Oak Farms near Braselton Georgia. The venue is on a farm that contains a barn, open fields, wooded area and pen with two horses called Jazz and Snowball. There is also the owner's hunting dog that makes appearances. The farm is a quiet place that evokes serenity and calm. There are no city noises such as cars, sirens or planes to distract you from the celebration.

The Next Stage Of Life And Why It Is An Honor Being An Atlanta Wedding Photographer

by David Diener

This week's photo session are with Amanda and Daniel. I photographed their wedding in the rain at Ashton Gardens in 2018. You can see the original photos at https://www.atlantaartisticweddings.com/blog/2018/6/11/atlanta-wedding-photographers-shoot-sparklers-and-rain-at-ashton-gardens.

A few months back Amanda contacted me to let me know that she was pregnant and wanted to do a maternity shoot. I usually don’t do maternity shoots but since this was one of my favorite couples, I said yes. I was so excited for them! It is such a joy seeing my couples go through the next stage of life.

6 Wedding Trends That Are No Longer Followed

by Heather Towhey

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

Wedding ceremonies have been around for thousands and thousands of years and include hundreds of traditions and characteristics that have come to be expected at the event. However, our Atlanta wedding photographers have also seen that weddings are like snowflakes: each one is special with details catered to the couple tying the knot. With wedding ceremonies becoming more and more focused on the individuals, it’s only natural for some of these old and ancient traditions to evolve with the times and others to disappear completely. Here are 6 wedding traditions that have disappeared or been adapted in our modern times:

The Evolution of the Bridal Party

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

One key component of any wedding ceremony is the bridal party, a group of the bride and groom’s closest friends chosen by the couple to share in the ceremony with them. This tradition has been around for hundreds of years and, thankfully, has evolved immensely since it’s origin. That being said, we did some research on this beloved tradition and want to share with you what we learned about the origins of the bridal party!

Atlanta Wedding Photographers Capture Beautiful Wedding at Naylor Hall

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings Bridesmaids celebrate a Cajun tradition

The Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings captured several details that were very unique and reflected the bride and groom’s personality. The whole ceremony had a rustic cajun sort of vibe. The first thing I noticed were the boutonnieres for the guys which had real bullet casings holding them together. I also loved the simple wooden handmade and engraved ring boxes. The wedding cake had a little detail on it that was so cool! There were strands of pearls hanging from the base of the cake. It turned out these were bracelets for the bridesmaids and at the end were symbolic trinkets that corresponded to cards that told the bridesmaid’s future or personality trait. What I believed was the most thoughtful detail came from the bride. She had these handwritten notes for everyone in her wedding party and family. It reflected how caring and thankful she was to everyone at her wedding.

The Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings went to Little Gardens is a historic wedding venue built in the mid 1800’s on a hill along Lawrenceville Highway. It has many great features, such as the rolling lawn out front, flagstone walkways, and a Koi pond in the back, which is a symbol of good luck in Japanese culture. Inside the main building, which is a traditional Georgian mansion, is a gorgeous ballroom with square columns and tall windows for an airy, classic feel. The hardwood flooring adds warmth and sophistication to the space.
