Another Great Unique Atlanta Wedding - Doctor Who

by David Diener

Atlanta Artistic Weddings Facebook
Somethings are just meant to happen!  I met this cute couple in October.  After the small talk at the consultation the bride leaned toward me and said have you heard of Doctor Who?  When she said that it send chills down my spine.  I have been a Doctor Who fan for over 20 years!  For those no in the know Doctor Who is a BBC program.
The one piece of advice I give every couple is this is your wedding make it your wedding.  Let it express your personality and have fun with it.  This couple did just that.  All of my couples are great but this one was  a little close to home because of their willingness to be individuals!  They were so much fun to do their engagement shoot at the Oakland Cemetery in downtown Atlanta. They had a sonic screwdriver as part of their bouquet!
Please enjoy this photo as much as I enjoyed taking it.

Photographing the Big Exit!

by David Diener

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to share one of my favorite photos I have take in a while.  I have taken many exit photos in my experience as an Atlanta Wedding photographer.  At the end of the wedding and everything is winding down you can tell the the couple is ready to leave and get on with their honeymoon.  I always love this time of the wedding.  You get to see the couple and they are looking forward to being husband and wife.  Also it is the end of the day and they finally get to have some time of their own with no guests.

This photograph is of a couple right before they leave.  They had bought a Rolls Royce just for their wedding (the groom deals with exotic cars).  They said "David take one shot before we leave!" .  Not one to miss and opportunity like this.  I grabbed my wide angle lens and jumped in the front seat of the Rolls.  I snapped the photo. I think captures perfectly the giddiness of a couple right before they leave on an honeymoon.

Sometimes things just come together so nicely and you have to be there to capture the moment.
I want to thank this Atlanta couple for their gracious hospitality and being so wonderful!

Trash the Dress photos shoot in Atlanta

by David Diener

Hello everyone!  There has been a growing trend among the younger brides for "trash the dress" photo shots.  This involves after the wedding you go out and pick a location to trash your wedding dress.  I just got an opportunity to do one.

I think they are great ideas.  They give the bride a chance to wear the wedding dress again and have a photo shot where they are not rushed by the wedding day.  They get to have fun and not be so worried about being so prime and proper.  This way the are just a girl having fun!

This bride was so wonderful.   We decided to do some fun photos before we went and trashed the dress in the lake.  She wore some sassy cowboy boots.  We did a few shots on some railroad tracks, a covered bridge and some by the lake.  We then moved on to the lake location.

We had a blast!! She was full of energy and gave some wonderful playful poses.  As you can see from the photo the main objective was to have fun!  Which is what all photo shots should be.  I want to thank the bride for giving me the chance to photograph such a unique opportunity.

The perfect time in the evening for photographs

by David Diener

Hello everyone!
Well I am back and I wanted to share a photograph that I took this weekend at an Atlanta wedding.  There is such thing as timing when it comes to wedding photography.  There are perfect times in the day and there are perfect times in the evening to get the best photos.

This particular photo to me was taken at the best time of the evening with the best lights to compliment it.  It was taken about 15 minutes after sunset.  When the sun has gone down but still illuminating the sky with a deep blue.  The other thing that makes this photo is the compliment of the warm  light coming from the hanging light bulbs at the house.

Sometimes things just come together so nicely and you have to be there to capture the moment.

I want to thank this Atlanta couple for their gracious hospitality and being so wonderful!

Atlanta Wedding Reception at Art Gallery

by David Diener

There is a growing trend to have receptions at galleries. They are perfect for at reception if you think about. They have some art on the wall so people have something to talk about. Usually are used to serving guest food and drinks. There is usually a large area for a dance floor. They are also usually closed in the evenings so they become a multi use facility!

I recently shot at Mason Murer Fine Art. It is a beautiful facility with the perfect amenities for a wedding or any other event. They had some great art work with a wide range of styles. They also have some large areas to accommodate big groups surrounded by smaller areas for intimate conversions. Just perfect for your event.

This particular wedding they had a sparklers for their exit. There was plenty of room by the doors for all the guests. The couple was perfect I could not ask for a more perfect shot. When they were exiting they stopped right in front of me and they gave their best kiss of the night surrounded by the sparklers! I have included the shot below.

Wedding Photography at Night

by David Diener

I am a wedding photographer in Atlanta, Georgia with 25 years  of experience.  I have been photographing weddings Atlanta for over 10 years now.  I am the owner of Atlanta Artistic Weddings my website is www.atlantaartisticweddings.com. I have been asked to talk about photographing weddings at night.
When I went to college I was a painter.  So when I think of photography I think of painting with light.   I am obsessed with the light.  I love the warm outdoor light to enjoying the challenges of using indoor light.   The first thing I do when I book a bride is look at my Google calendar where I have amended the sunrise and sunset calendar to it.  That way I will know what the outdoor light will be before and after the wedding.   I will also know how to plan my shoots for the best locations and times to take advantage of the sun.
Like every photographer when I get to a facility I survey for light. I will walk around the building and look for locations and then survey the interior.   I look for windows, and sources for artificial light.  I also look for places where the most dramatic light is located.  To find good dramatic light involves looking for what light I can adjust and areas that have the most contrast to the most well lit areas against the dark areas of a facility.
In Atlanta there is a growing trend to use art galleries as reception halls.  It makes sense because they are usually consist of a large spaces and are used to accommodating caters at art receptions.   They also the advantage of having lots of adjustable lighting for the variety art shows they accommodate.
Recently I had the opportunity to shoot a reception at an art gallery.  If you have ever observed that gallery lights are usually on tracts and they use spot lights to accent the art work on display.  When I was  surveying the area I saw that where they had a spot light on a piece of art in the center of the room.  When I looked at that I came up with an idea.  I thought since the wedding is going to be at night we could cut off all the lights except the one accent  light and move the sculpture and replace it with the bride since she is a piece of art work also!  My bride was so excited with the idea!  When I arrived before any one got there we cut off the lights and moved the sculpture and replaced it with the bride.  The results were stunning! I use a Canon 5d Mark II.  I simply increased my ISO to 3200 and used my 2.8 zoom lens so I would not have to use a flash. It was such a simple idea but came across with so much drama and power!   It is one of my favorite photos.
There is also a trend to use sparklers at night for the wedding exit.   Like I said before I think of painting with light.  About 20 minutes before what I thought was the exit I grabbed a couple of groomsmen from the wedding and asked them to help me with a shoot.  I placed my camera on the rear of my car. I then set the camera to shutter priority and lined up the groomsmen.  I told each one of them to make a letter with the lit sparkler and spell out “LOVE”.  I lit the sparklers and made a couple of exposures and boom! We have a great photo with some dramatic fun lighting.  Just as I finished the “LOVE” shot they announced they moved up time for exit.  I grabbed my camera ran to the bride and groom at the same time changing my settings to aperture priority and cutting on my flash which is no easy task in the dark.  I just enough time to catch the exit right after the “LOVE” shot with no time to spare!
So wrap this up there is a certain amount of serendipity when it comes to shooting weddings.  But the better you get at looking at light sources given to you and taking advantage of them the better your photographs will become.  I know you with lots of practice you will be happy with the results!

Indian Engagement Ceremony | www.atlantaartisticweddings.com

by David Diener

As a photographer I am so blessed to get to photograph so many different kinds of weddings.  What I say to every bride and groom is make the day yours.  I had the honor recently to photograph a wedding engagement ceremony.  Oh, I just can’t begin to describe all the beautiful colors and pageantry.   Although the group of family and friends were large the ceremony it self was small an intimate.  I just love all the color and textures of the ceremony!  Once again I can’t believe how lucky I am to be a Atlanta wedding photographer!

Fun things to do with Sparklers

by David Diener

At every wedding you have a exit for the  married couple.  My favorite is the sparklers.  They come across so beautifully in photographs.  It makes for a very dramatic exit!  At one of my latest weddings a bride requested that I photograph the grooms friends spelling out "LOVE" with the sparklers.  I was excited with the idea.  I grabbed a couple of the groomsmen and headed outside. I used a car as a tripod and adjusted my camera for a long exposure.  Within a couple of minutes we had a "Lovely" photo!  This has go to be one of my favorite photos for this year!

Wedding Proposal in Downtown Atlanta

by David Diener

Atlanta Wedding Photography
Recently I was invited to photograph a very special occasion.  This person was going to propose to his girlfriend at the same place they went on their first date.  They went on their first date at Centennial Olympic Park and they went ice skating.   He wanted me to capture this moment and not let her know since it was a surprise.  I did some research on the lightning and I was up to the challenge!
The big night came and I get an assistant to help me because I did not wan to miss the big moment!  It was easy to take photos of them skating since there were so many people skating.  He wanted to propose to her at the Olympic Rings Fountain.  So when they made their move there I put my assistant in to position and I grabbed a passing couple and asked them to be part of my cover and they agreed.   I then moved my cover in to position and shot over their shoulder at the couple.  What happened next was magic.  He pulled out the ring and even got down on one knee!
I cant say what a honor it was to photograph the big moment!  She was none the wiser and they were just thinking about Atlanta Wedding Venues. I have included the video for everyone to see.

Downtown Atlanta Wedding Photography

by David Diener

I recently had a unique opportunity to have a model that had access to a wedding dress. I was not going to let that pass me by. So I set up a shoot in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. More specifically the Atlantic Station area. I felt this area show cases AtlantaThere is a bridge, lake, and this really cool architectural arch. I as luck enough to find some parking right near the bridge. So we started there.
While shooting at the bridge we got some wonderful photos. We took advantage of the
Atlanta skyline and the lights in the background. It made a great back drop to some
wonderful poses. Like I said before Irene was a pro. We got some head shots with the
arch in the background. But my favorite shot on the bridge was some of Irene sitting on
the bridge with the skyline in the back ground.
We then moved toward the columns below the arch. There we got some great back
lighted photos with the help of katherine the photographer’s assistant.
I want to say give a big shout out to the model Irene who was awesome to work with
she was a real pro who delivered! I also want to give a big thanks to Katherine the
make up artist who doubled as a photographer’s assistant. These two women were
awesome working late into the night and in the heat of a Atlanta which can be a lot to
ask of anyone. Thank you thank you and thank you!

What I love about being a Atlanta Wedding Photographer

by David Diener

What I love about wedding photography. First let me give you some background on me.  I start doing photography over 20 years ago with film. Matter of fact I still shoot some large format HABS HAER photography for the park service on film. While I love black and white photography with film. I love enjoy the convenience of shooting digital. While I like architecture I love shooting people!

I love shooting people! I am a people person. That is the main reason love wedding photography. I enjoy the range of emotions that come come to wedding. The joy of everyone getting together and witnessing the joining of two people in love. There
is something so very special about that. I am always trying to capture that special moment that two people look at each other and are giddy that they are married! That little moment when the parents look at their kids and are so happy for them. That
moment when the grand parents look on and see another generation has begun. How
can some one not love that!

The other thing I love about weddings is the challenge. You really have to have your
energy level on high. You have to be aware of what is happening around you and what
is going to happen. I have to constantly have to anticipate what is going to happen
next. Where to be to capture the expression on someone's face or to be where the
action is. I am always looking for the little details of wedding that makes it unique to the
couple may it be a candle for a loved one or the bride wearing cowboy boots. That is
one the many reasons I so enjoy wedding photography.

I do believe I was born to be a wedding photographer. I see so many blogs from other
wedding photographers and they are always complaining about this or that. I on the
other hand fell so blessed to be able to shot weddings in Atlanta, Georgia one of the
greatest places in the world for weddings!!!!!!!

the Atlanta Wedding Season has Begun!

by David Diener

Well it is that time of year again in Atlanta.  You can smell the honeysuckle and see the Azaleas in bloom. With all this going on it is the perfect time to get married!  I have had the great opportunity to shoot a lot of weddings this season.  I have shot at the Chateau Elan, Stone Mountain, Downtown Atlanta and the classic Braselton Stover House.
I feel so honored to part of so many weddings.   I really enjoy the documenting the excitement and love that is at a wedding in Georgia.  The romantic looks, the details that the bride has worked so hard on.  It is just so cool to have a job that I get to photograph the most important day of a couples life!
