I am a award winning Atlanta wedding photographer who has shot hundreds of weddings in the Atlanta Metro area. I feel for all the bride and grooms out there and have to make such a monumental decision. You have to think about budget, location, your style, your needs and the venues availability. I will share some of the best venues I have worked at in Atlanta and I going to break them out by types. There are historic wedding venues that have that southern charm. There are large hotels that can accomodate out of town guests and are sensitive to different cultures.

Atlanta’s historic wedding venues offer a timeless backdrop for couples who love character, architecture, and stories etched in brick and beam. From restored mansions and Beaux-Arts ballrooms to intimate carriage houses and old-school train depots, these spaces bring a warm, vintage atmosphere that complements candid, photojournalistic wedding photography. The patina of original woodwork, soaring ceilings, antique fixtures, and sun-washed courtyards create perfect opportunities for natural, black-and-white portraits and unposed moments — moments that feel both elegant and authentic. Whether you’re planning a quiet vow exchange in a garden courtyard or a lively reception under crystal chandeliers, Atlanta’s historic venues pair history with romance, giving your wedding day a distinctive sense of place and timeless visual storytelling.

I am a preferred wedding photographer at many of the best historic venues. The number one historic wedding venue to me is Naylor Hall where I have been shooting for over 15 years. Naylor Hall in Historic Roswell, GA, is a beautifully preserved antebellum home that embodies the town’s rich 19th-century heritage; its stately Greek Revival architecture, original woodwork, and shaded grounds create an evocative setting perfect for intimate weddings and editorial photography. Steeped in local history, the house and its surrounding gardens offer a timeless, vintage atmosphere—ideal for black-and-white, photojournalistic work—where candid moments and natural light produce portraits that feel both classic and candid. Located within walking distance of Roswell’s charming downtown, Naylor Hall provides couples and photographers with versatile indoor and outdoor spaces, from grand parlors to tree-lined lawns, that photograph with a warm, historic character and a quietly elegant sense of place.

The next historic venue where I am a preferred wedding photographer is Payne Corley House. Payne–Corley House — Duluth, GA

Located in the heart of Duluth, the Payne–Corley House is a striking example of turn-of-the-century Southern architecture with a quietly elegant presence perfect for intimate wedding photography. Its historic façade, wraparound porch, and mature oak trees create timeless backdrops that read beautifully in both black-and-white and color film.

Why couples love it

  • Historic charm: The house’s period details — gingerbread trim, tall windows, and original woodwork — give portraits an heirloom quality.

  • Versatile settings: Formal shots on the porch or steps, candid moments in shaded gardens, and atmospheric indoor portraits with natural window light.

  • Privacy: Set back from the street with leafy grounds, it feels secluded, ideal for heartfelt first looks and quiet bride-and-groom portraits.

Photography tips & ideas

  • Black-and-white storytelling: Use high-contrast black-and-white to emphasize texture — the grain of the porch floor, lace on a gown, and the lines of the house.

  • Golden-hour portraits: Capture warm rim light through oak branches for soft, romantic silhouettes and glowing skin tones.

  • Candid reportage: Let the couple move naturally — strolling on the path, whispering on the porch swing, or sharing a laugh under the eaves — to preserve genuine moments.

  • Detail shots: Close-ups of hands, rings, bouquet against the vintage wood, and architectural motifs lend editorial polish to an album.

Logistics & timing

  • Best time for portraits: Late afternoon to early evening for flattering light and gentle shadows.

  • Weather considerations: Overcast skies are excellent for even, flattering light; if raining, the covered porch and indoor nooks offer sheltered alternatives that still feel intimate.

  • Permissions: Confirm any venue rules or permits for professional photography, especially for larger wedding parties or overnight use.

Styling suggestions

  • Attire: Timeless, classic looks translate best — simple gowns with vintage lace, tailored suits, and minimal, elegant accessories.

  • Florals: Loose, garden-style bouquets with greenery and muted tones complement the home’s historic aesthetic.

  • Color palette: Earthy neutrals, soft pastels, and deep greens integrate seamlessly with the architecture and landscape.
