by David Diener

Photo by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

This weeks wedding is about a couple who, like a lot of couples, had to put off their wedding plans due to Covid-19. Hayden and Kaitlyn got engaged almost 2 years ago and, after rescheduling twice, they finally got to have the wedding they always wanted with their friends and family.

Now let’s go back a few years. They dated and fell in love and, after a while, they took a romantic European vacation. While looking into the sea from the high cliffs of Ireland, Hayden got down on one knee and proposed to Kaitlyn.

This week’s wedding will go down in Atlanta Artistic Weddings history as one of the best weddings ever! The couple choose two of the most Iconic wedding venues in Atlanta. They held their ceremony at the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, which is one of the oldest catholic churches in the southeast, and their reception took place at the Fabulous Fox Theater!

First, I want to give you a little background on this awesome couple. To know them is to know they love to dance! They are talented competitive ballroom dancers who have even gone to professional dance competitions. A lot of their friends are also competitive dancers. When we met, they explained how important dancing was to them. When you see them dance, their passion for the art form comes alive. You can also see the strong connection they have, since they are so in tune with each other while they dance.

As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I am honored to shoot so many weddings and be invited into people’s lives. I get to know the brides and grooms very well. I also get to know the family, especially the parents and grandparents. This week, I want to share one particularly meaningful interaction I had with a family member at a wedding I shot this past week. This conversation was special and it reminded me again of why it is such an honor to be a wedding photographer.

Many people view weddings as steeped in tradition. In fact, certain rituals go back centuries and may have been passed down through families for generations. It can sometimes feel like guests have certain expectations that a couple has to meet during their ceremony. However, what many people don’t realize is that there is no one way to do things and there is nothing wrong with adding a twist to some of these classic traditions. The Atlanta wedding photographers at Atlanta Artistic Weddings have seen many occasions where the couple has put their own spin on classic wedding and every time it has been incredible and special. If you are looking for ways to add personal touches to your wedding, here are a few ideas.

One trend that I absolutely love is the trash the dress shoot after the wedding! I throw these sessions in for free for every couple that wants to do it because they are so much fun and the brides really get to let loose. They can also lead to some stunning photos, as you can see that you can look back on for years to come. This trend is growing, but it is still fairly new, so here’s a little more info about what a trash the dress session is.

Shooting with Natural Light

by David Diener

As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I am often asked what camera I use, as if that is the only element that goes into taking a great photograph. A talented photographer friend of mine shared a piece of wisdom that I have taken to heart ever since. An amateur photographer talks about what equipment they use because they assume that is how you make great photos, while a professional photographer talks about how much money they charge to justify his photos. However, an artist talks about light because he knows that is where all great photos come from. When I am on a shoot I am always looking for the best light for my photography, because I know great natural light makes for beautiful photos.

When I am shooting an engagement session I schedule it for the time of day that has the best lighting, which is usually when the sun is low in the sky. This happens twice in the day: once in the morning at sunrise and once in the evening at sunset. As you can see from these photos, you get this warm, romantic light that is perfect for engagement and wedding photography. You can backlight your subject and get the halo effect, which can add so much to your photos.

I personally prefer to shoot in the morning. It is cooler that way, so you don’t have to worry about sweating. Also, when you shoot in the morning you don’t have to rush to get all your photography done before sunset. You get a very natural warm light for photos, which turns out beautiful on camera.

Using natural light is not limited to outdoor photography. You can take advantage of natural light indoors by using windows and doors. Whenever I shoot at an indoor wedding venue, I get there early to survey where the light comes into the venue. Sometimes you get lucky and the venue will have these large glass windows and doors that provide some wonderful light! It is sort of diffused and makes for some stunning lighting.

However, what many people don’t know is that April is actually a prime month for romance and for couples. So much so that it has become known as National Couple’s Appreciation Month!

The Atlanta wedding photographers at Atlanta Artistic Weddings absolutely love love! As it turns out, there are plenty of opportunities throughout the year to celebrate love, one of them being National Proposal Day, which takes place on March 20th each year. Unlike Valentine’s Day, where people celebrate affection of all kinds amongst family, friends, etc., National Proposal Day is where one should make a vow or commitment specifically to their significant other. This holiday is meant to give people courage to take the plunge with the one they love and commit to them in a special way. Take time to plan a romantic gesture for your loved one on the day and, if you’re stumped, here is a little bit of background and a few ideas to give you a head start.

As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I love shooting engagement sessions. This week I shot a very special couple whom I have known for a couple of years. When they said that they wanted me to be their wedding photographer, I was so honored! I could not wait to to start shooting with them.

We shot at several different locations outside of Atlanta and around Roswell, Georgia. We started in the morning at Leita Thompson Park. It is a cozy little park with lots of beautiful walking trails and an intimate little playground with benches. The walking trails go for miles with some rolling hills, which makes for some gorgeous scenery.
