The Next Stage Of Life And Why It Is An Honor Being An Atlanta Wedding Photographer

This week's photo session are with Amanda and Daniel. I photographed their wedding in the rain at Ashton Gardens in 2018. You can see the original photos at https://www.atlantaartisticweddings.com/blog/2018/6/11/atlanta-wedding-photographers-shoot-sparklers-and-rain-at-ashton-gardens.

A few months back Amanda contacted me to let me know that she was pregnant and wanted to do a maternity shoot. I usually don’t do maternity shoots but since this was one of my favorite couples, I said yes. I was so excited for them! It is such a joy seeing my couples go through the next stage of life.

6 Wedding Trends That Are No Longer Followed

6 Wedding Trends That Are No Longer Followed

Wedding ceremonies have been around for thousands and thousands of years and include hundreds of traditions and characteristics that have come to be expected at the event. However, our Atlanta wedding photographers have also seen that weddings are like snowflakes: each one is special with details catered to the couple tying the knot. With wedding ceremonies becoming more and more focused on the individuals, it’s only natural for some of these old and ancient traditions to evolve with the times and others to disappear completely. Here are 6 wedding traditions that have disappeared or been adapted in our modern times:

The Evolution of the Bridal Party

The Evolution of the Bridal Party

One key component of any wedding ceremony is the bridal party, a group of the bride and groom’s closest friends chosen by the couple to share in the ceremony with them. This tradition has been around for hundreds of years and, thankfully, has evolved immensely since it’s origin. That being said, we did some research on this beloved tradition and want to share with you what we learned about the origins of the bridal party!

Atlanta Wedding Photographers Capture Beautiful Wedding at Naylor Hall

Atlanta Wedding Photographers Capture Beautiful Wedding at Naylor Hall

The Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings captured several details that were very unique and reflected the bride and groom’s personality. The whole ceremony had a rustic cajun sort of vibe. The first thing I noticed were the boutonnieres for the guys which had real bullet casings holding them together. I also loved the simple wooden handmade and engraved ring boxes. The wedding cake had a little detail on it that was so cool! There were strands of pearls hanging from the base of the cake. It turned out these were bracelets for the bridesmaids and at the end were symbolic trinkets that corresponded to cards that told the bridesmaid’s future or personality trait. What I believed was the most thoughtful detail came from the bride. She had these handwritten notes for everyone in her wedding party and family. It reflected how caring and thankful she was to everyone at her wedding.

The Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings went to Little Gardens is a historic wedding venue built in the mid 1800’s on a hill along Lawrenceville Highway. It has many great features, such as the rolling lawn out front, flagstone walkways, and a Koi pond in the back, which is a symbol of good luck in Japanese culture. Inside the main building, which is a traditional Georgian mansion, is a gorgeous ballroom with square columns and tall windows for an airy, classic feel. The hardwood flooring adds warmth and sophistication to the space.

When and why did people start using them? Atlanta Wedding Photographers Capture A Celebration Two Years In The Making

The ceremony was held inside the chapel. The Atlanta wedding photographers captured a mixed ceremony based on Sri Lanka culture. Sri Lanka is an island south of the Indian mainland. Since it is an island it has a rich history of international trade that influences the many religions that are practiced there. It was a beautiful ceremony. The bridesmaids sang a traditional song and there was even a person playing the conch shell. The couple fed each other and shared the cup of life. The two families exchanged gifts and the ceremony ended with the minister chopping a coconut in half!

Atlanta Wedding Photographer Catches A Proposal On Top Of The World!

A couple of weeks ago, this guy named AJ contacted me. He wanted me to photograph him proposing to his girlfriend on the Helipad on the roof of Vantanas. It was going to be a total surprise to her!

It was going to take a lot of planning to pull something like this off, so this Atlanta Wedding Photographer contacted Vantanas to work out the logistics and timing. The plan was for him to pretend to take his girlfriend out to eat. He would go to Centennial Park and the ferris wheel then across the park to Vantanas, where he would tell her that he has access to the roof there and its beautiful view of the city.

I am teaching Digital Photography 1 starting March 23rd. We will go over composition, selective focus, saturated colors and proper exposure all combine to produce images that make the best use of digital photography's tools in order to tell great stories. Ideal for both enthusiastic hobbyists as well as serious amateurs, our course will utilize a combination of class lectures and photographic assignments to convey the importance of megapixels, file compression, and print-versus-email output. We will also explore the more complex aspects of photography: lighting, composition, color, depth of field, and more. Students are encouraged to share work for enhancement of class discussions.

Wedding at Naylor Hall

Wedding at Naylor Hall

This week’s couple is Lauren and Justin. Their wedding was a ton of fun and took plac at one of our favorite venues Naylor Hall.

The bride, Lauren, wore her mother’s wedding dress. They were the same size so she didn't even have to alter it! It was a modified A line dress with lace sleeves with ruffled trim around the base of the dress and a medium length manageable train. She also had a long veil that came to her knees. Lauren looked stunning in the dress and it was a beautiful homage to her mom. There was one more sentimental accessory on her bouquet: her father’s wedding ring. It was so touching that her attire was full of family heirlooms.

Intimate Wedding at Payne Corley House

Intimate Wedding at Payne Corley House

This week’s wedding is Jack and Gloria. It was an intimate wedding at the Payne Corley House, where a few lifelong friends and family got together on a beautiful day to celebrate two people who found a partner in life.

The Payne Corley House, built in 1873, is one of my favorite venues in Atlanta. The owners Krista and Michael Ganley have turned this historic mansion into a premier wedding turnkey venue, that can provide you with flowers from Abby’s at the Cottage, food from one the top cooks in Atlanta, talented professional wedding planners and a beautiful setting for your event.

We met at the entrance to the park by the Magnolia Room, a small wedding venue in Piedmont park. We started to walk around to the soccer field past the tennis courts. As we walked I got to learn more about their big Greek wedding! It is going to be held at The Annunciation Cathedral, a Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where the Atlanta Greek festival is held every year. They are such a sweet couple who are really thoughtful and caring. I even got to know how Nathan proposed to Evangeline and their little covid love story!

Why Your Wedding Photographer Should Be Curious and Ask Questions

Why Your Wedding Photographer Should Be Curious and Ask Questions

If you follow our blog and social media then you know that we constantly talk about the important questions you should ask your wedding photographer. However, most people may not consider that the questions your photographer asks you are equally important. Now I know that answering questions from someone you likely just met may seem nerve-wracking and nosy to some people. However, there are plenty of reasons why you’ll want a photographer who will take the time to get to know more about you and what you want on your wedding day.

Atlanta's Beautiful Piedmont Park Great for Weddings and Engagement Sessions

Atlanta's Beautiful Piedmont Park Great for Weddings and Engagement Sessions

As an Atlanta wedding photographer I get to do a lot of engagement sessions all around Atlanta. One place that I keep coming back to is Piedmont Park. It is the crown jewel of Atlanta parks in the heart of the city offering so many great photo locations.

Now you might be wondering why I went into so much of the history of Piedmont Park. Well the answer is that all these features from the past make for such wonderful photo opportunities for an Atlanta wedding photographer because they make great backdrops and showcase Atlanta. Let us go through a few of them.

Atlanta Wedding Photographers Shoot at Little Gardens

Atlanta Wedding Photographers Shoot at Little Gardens

This week’s couple is Kristin and Daniel. I met them through my church. They approached me after service one Sunday and said that they were looking for a Atlanta wedding photographer for their wedding at Little Gardens. I was excited to say yes Little Gardens is less than a mile from my house!

Little Gardens is a hidden gem in the Lawrenceville area. It is a colonial-style venue nestled in the midst of a 7-acre estate. It has an outdoor ceremony area with a picturesque waterfall and koi fish pond. There is also a large bridal suite with overstuffed sofas and a floor-to-ceiling mirror to die for as well as a large ballroom and wrap-around bar in the reception area.

It was a weekday wedding so I left work and went straight there. The bride and bridesmaids happened to arrive at the same time that I did. As they went into the bridal room I brought out the wedding dress for a few detail shots. Also while the girls were getting ready the groom arrived with his groomsmen. We kept the groups separated until the ceremony.

Love and Weddings Can Be Spontaneous at The Cherokee Town Club

Love and Weddings Can Be Spontaneous at The Cherokee Town Club

Keven and Maria are this week’s couple. Keven contacted me one week before the wedding. He explained that it was going to be a small ceremony of a few family and friends while everyone was in town for the holidays.

The wedding was held at the Cherokee Town and Country Club, a historic mansion located off of Paces Ferry Road between Midtown and Buckhead. The Town Club occupies the famed Grant Estate and was chartered in 1956. It is recognized as one of America’s premier private clubs. The Grant Estate is one of the 8 original historic properties on Paces Ferry. It is part of Atlanta’s most beautiful historic districts which includes such properties as the Swan House, Tullie Smith House, and Stuart With House.
