As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I get to shoot at some amazing locations. As some of you may know I am involved in historic preservation and I love historic venues. This week we are going to cover some of my favorite historic places of worship in Atlanta. I am also sharing a map of the historic churches, temples and synagogues in Atlanta. The Temple, established in 1860 to serve the needs of the German-Jewish immigrants, is the only non-Christian historic house of worship in Midtown. The neoclassical Temple was designed by noted Atlanta classicist Philip Trammell Shutze in 1931. While dramatically scaled back from the pre-Depression plans, the sanctuary takes cues from Venetian churches Shutze saw while studying in Rome. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, The Temple was a center for civil rights advocacy. Its civil rights role was one of the central themes in the movie Driving Miss Daisy.

They would laugh and just step into the creek to get the shot. They easily climbed in the tall grass to get a great photo.

I asked her what she meant by that and she said she wanted to do a Bollywood themed photoshoot at a train station then a food based shoot at a restaurant since they were foodies.
We contacted the Southern Railway Museum located south of Duluth and asked if it was ok to shoot there and they said yes as long as you are not bringing some big lights. I decided it would be best to start in the morning on the square in downtown Duluth, since they have so many great restaurants and there are many photo locations within walking distance.

I have talked to many Atlanta wedding photographers. They all like getting to know their bride and grooms before the wedding. The best way to do that is with an engagement session. During an engagement session you have time to talk. You can ask questions and get a feel for what the couple is comfortable with, like are they comfortable in crowds and showing affection in public. I also ask them how they met each other. That is a good starting point for an interesting conversation. If they become comfortable with me sometimes I will ask them who said “I love you” first. That can tell a lot about the couple too.

We agreed to meet at Barrington Hall in Roswell at 7:30am at sunrise. They were real sports! It started out very chilly and Sarah was wearing a beautiful white sundress that looked great on her but I know it was cold. Evan and Sarah did not complain one bit! As the shoot went on they started to appreciate the early morning start time and the low light that comes when you start to shoot in the morning and get that early morning/sunrise light.
