As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I get to shoot at some amazing locations. As some of you may know I am involved in historic preservation and I love historic venues. This week we are going to cover some of my favorite historic places of worship in Atlanta. I am also sharing a map of the historic churches, temples and synagogues in Atlanta. I hope you enjoy this little tour as much as I do.
The Temple, established in 1860 to serve the needs of the German-Jewish immigrants, is the only non-Christian historic house of worship in Midtown. The neoclassical Temple was designed by noted Atlanta classicist Philip Trammell Shutze in 1931. While dramatically scaled back from the pre-Depression plans, the sanctuary takes cues from Venetian churches Shutze saw while studying in Rome. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, The Temple was a center for civil rights advocacy. Its civil rights role was one of the central themes in the movie Driving Miss Daisy.

This week’s wedding is Sarah and Cole. Sarah contacted me a few months ago. Sarah told me that she was graduating from Emory and wanted a small ceremony of a few friends and family. As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I love the Emory campus. There are so many photo locations for wedding photography. Like the Glenn Memorial Church Little Chapel. It is behind the larger church when you enter campus. It is perfect for intimate ceremonies like Sarah and Cole.

This week's wedding was at one of my favorite Atlanta landmarks, I was second shooting at The Temple with my favorite wedding team from JDV Occasions and Jim White Designs. When they are involved I know the Bride and Groom are in great hands.
This week’s couple is Rachel and Chris. My wife was talking to Rachel, her friend at work who was looking for a wedding photographer. Rachel and Chris reached out to me and we started talking. After they talked things over they gave me the honor of being their wedding photographer. They mentioned that their wedding is going to be a 1920’s speakeasy themed wedding. I was so excited to shoot a fun wedding with such a unique theme.
I met Rachel, Chris’s brother-in law and Chris’s sister, who is also the makeup artist, at the Trilith Town Center. If you have not heard of Trilith it is located about an hour south of Atlanta near Fayetteville, Georgia. Trilith is also a huge movie studio with some of the largest sound studios in the world. The town is a live and work area with these great carefully curated boutique shops and chef-driven restaurants purposefully placed in a greenspace within one block of each home. It is amazing that they have built this whole area in about 7 years.
One of the best things about being an Atlanta wedding photographer are the many cultures we see throughout the city. This carries into the weddings, which often turn into cultural celebrations. All wedding details tell the story of the couple and where they came from. My favorite detail happens to be the wedding dress so this week, I wanted to take a walk through all of the wonderful cultural wedding attire from around the globe our photographers have seen over the years.
As a Atlanta wedding photographer I feel so lucky! The metro area is blessed with many historic event venues. As an Atlanta wedding photographer these gems make for beautiful backdrops for photography. These historic mansions scattered throughout the metro area bring grandeur and elegance to your wedding. Holding your ceremony at a historic landmark makes your wedding historic also! Here are just a few of our favorite historic wedding venues.
We met at the entrance to the park by the Magnolia Room, a small wedding venue in Piedmont park. We started to walk around to the soccer field past the tennis courts. As we walked I got to learn more about their big Greek wedding! It is going to be held at The Annunciation Cathedral, a Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where the Atlanta Greek festival is held every year. They are such a sweet couple who are really thoughtful and caring. I even got to know how Nathan proposed to Evangeline and their little covid love story!
We arrived at Piedmont Park right around sunrise. I was looking forward to the photoshoot and getting to know these two. As luck would have it, there was rain and a chilly morning in the forecast. They were real troopers and said let’s go for it! I grabbed an extra strobe light and umbrella from my car and we started in the park. We then stopped in front of the garage where they had some cool street lamps. Then we headed to the soccer field where you have one of the finest skylines in the city. Once again we used the umbrella and second strobe for lighting. After a few minutes there we headed to the dock and wrapped up our shooting at Piedmont Park. The rain seemed to be coming down a little harder so I suggested we go to the Georgian Terrace, a historic hotel in downtown Atlanta on Peachtree Street. We'd be able to park there and go do some fun Downtown shots since it was only 5 minutes away. They agreed and off we went.

This week’s weddings took place at my favorite venue, Naylor Hall. I love Naylor Hall for many reasons. One it is one of the most beautiful venues around Atlanta. It has a certain southern charm but also grandeur. The favorite thing about Naylor Hall is the people who work there. They could not be more gracious and welcoming to their guests.
This weeks wedding is about a couple who, like a lot of couples, had to put off their wedding plans due to Covid-19. Hayden and Kaitlyn got engaged almost 2 years ago and, after rescheduling twice, they finally got to have the wedding they always wanted with their friends and family.
Now let’s go back a few years. They dated and fell in love and, after a while, they took a romantic European vacation. While looking into the sea from the high cliffs of Ireland, Hayden got down on one knee and proposed to Kaitlyn.
This week the Atlanta Wedding photographers at Atlanta Artistic Weddings got to shoot an intimate micro wedding in Decatur for a great couple! The couple lived within walking distance to the Decatur Square, where you have the park and historic Decatur Courthouse. Their venue was centrally located to everything, which was awesome!

They were a great couple surrounded by wonderful friends and family. There was even a little rain but that did not put a damper on their wedding day! Congrats to a great Atlanta couple!

The couple chose to do their engagement session in the Egyptian ballroom portion of the Fox theater. We can not wait for their wedding! We also want to thank the Fox Theater for their gracious hospitality. This is a engagement session for the history books!

The Atlanta wedding photographers at Atlantaartisticweddings had the honor of shooting Anna and Gary’s wedding. The wedding may have been during the rain but it did not dampen Anna and Gary’s wedding! We had a lot fun shooting at the historic wedding venue in downtown Norcross a little outside of Atlanta. They father and daughter dance was especially moving.

The reception was held at Trees of Atlanta a beautiful reserve in the heart of the city.
