A Shower of Love on Your Wedding Day!

by David Diener

As a Atlanta wedding photographer it is an honor to shoot so many diverse weddings. Kellie and Nagy are this week’s couple. They are super a cute couple who come from different sides of the world. The bride, Kellie is from Atlanta, Georgia and the groom Nagy is from Cairo, Egypt. She was raised Catholic and he was raised Muslim. Fate brought them together and when they met they appreciated each others cultures. They saw not the differences in the cultures but the similarities, in their cultures, such as importance of family and the importance of love and respect.

Historic Naylor Hall Is A Great Venue For Weddings!

by David Diener

This week’s weddings took place at my favorite venue, Naylor Hall. I love Naylor Hall for many reasons. One it is one of the most beautiful venues around Atlanta. It has a certain southern charm but also grandeur. The favorite thing about Naylor Hall is the people who work there. They could not be more gracious and welcoming to their guests.

Popular Wedding Themes We Love!

by Heather Towhey

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

Our Atlanta wedding photographers at Atlanta Artistic Weddings have come to realize that, just like people, no two weddings are exactly the same. There are so many different types of people and personalities in the world. Even in our city of Atlanta alone there is so much diversity, which is amazing! That being said, it only makes sense that people would want their wedding ceremonies to reflect their personalities and some people do so by assigning their wedding a theme that speaks to who they are as a couple. This week I want to take you through some of the more popular wedding themes our Atlanta wedding photographers have seen.

Classic/Traditional Wedding

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

This is likely what first comes to mind when one thinks of a wedding. This type of ceremony focuses on tradition and ritual. Guests usually have a program or list of standard rituals and events, such as the vows, exchanging of the rings, and toasts, where they can follow along with what will happen and when. This type of wedding usually takes place in either a church that is meaningful to the couple or a nice event hall. The decor is simple and elegant with flowers and candles and usually includes neutral colors, like white or grey. This is a formal event, so people usually dress in formal or black tie ensembles. The bride and her bridesmaids wear formal dresses, with the bride in white and the bridesmaids in a soft or neutral color. The groom and groomsmen wear formal suits or tuxes with ties and accessories, like cuff links or socks, in a color that matches the chosen color scheme.

Rustic Wedding

Atlanta Wedding Photographer - photography by - www.atlantaartis Atlanta Wedding Photographer - photography by - www.atlantaartis Atlanta Wedding Photographer - photography by - www.atlantaartis

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

This wedding theme tends to be more organic and natural. These weddings usually take place outside or in an open-air structure so the decor normally includes a lot of wooden, floral, and forest elements. Rustic decorations also provide the perfect opportunity to DIY and put one’s own personal touch on the ceremony, such as burlap bows around the floral centerpieces, distressed wood picture frames holding meaningful pictures, or a wooden/floral arch to mark where the couple will stand. The attire is also slightly more casual than a traditional wedding. The rustic groom will wear earth tones to match the theme. most of the time he will wear the suit, but he may also wear a button down with no jacket or just a vest. The rustic bride usually wears a slim-fitting, flowing dress, sometimes with lace. She also usually wears her hair down with flowers woven through it.

City Wedding

Atlanta Artistic Weddings Atlanta Wedding Photographer - photography by - www.atlantaartis Atlanta Wedding Photographer - photography by - www.atlantaartis Atlanta Wedding Photographer - photography by - www.atlantaartis

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

This is definitely one of the more modern wedding themes and is perfect for those more outgoing and social couples who enjoy the city night life. This type of wedding usually takes place at a local hotspot in the heart of a city in it’s downtown area. A city wedding can range in feeling from a Vegas club feel to old Hollywood glamour. The decor could be made of steel or metal elements and incorporate bright colors signifying the street art found around the city. It is also more likely that a DJ will play music at the reception, rather than a live band. The attire is still formal, but it is more sleek and modern than traditional formalware. The brides dress will often be fitted, or at list a slim cut, and the groom will wear a less formal suit, as opposed to a tux, and possibly a bowtie as opposed to a regular tie.

Beach Wedding

AtlantaArtisticWeddings - Atlanta Wedding photographers-128.jpg AtlantaArtisticWeddings - Atlanta Wedding photographers-132 02.jpg AtlantaArtisticWeddings - Atlanta Wedding photographers-92.jpg

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

Weddings with a beach/tropical theme can be super fun and have a relaxing feel to them, weather permitting. There is a lot you can do with this theme, from seashell and pastel decor, to coconut drinks and seafood at the reception, to leis and shell necklaces as party favors. You can also have some fun with lighting, using tiki torches at the reception after dark, or stringing lights on a pier or the chairs that have been set up. Everyone usually dresses a bit more casually for beach weddings, sometimes with no shoes, short sleeve, spaghetti strap, or strapless dress for the women, and khakis for the men. Summer is the perfect time for this sort of wedding and you can even make the perfect beach playlist for your DJ to play at the reception.

A Wedding Customized To Your Interests-It’s Your Day After All!

This theme, which we have discussed before, is one of my favorites and can really show off the couple’s personality! It is basically the classic wedding ceremony, but with the couples own individual twist on some of the rituals and traditions. These twists can refer to a couple’s favorite show or book, their occupation or hobbies, or places that are significant to them, or that they love. They can personalize the decor by personalizing centerpieces, such as using favorite objects or photos instead of flowers, or creating a unique, fun cake topper. The couple may also customize their favors in the same way, with a favorite logo, character, or saying. The wedding attire can also be customized with, fun socks or watches for the groom and groomsmen and fun shoes and accessories for the bride and bridesmaids. This day is for the bride and groom and this theme will really let them shine!

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

All of these themes are unique, as well as timeless, and never seem to disappoint. Whatever theme you choose for your wedding day, make sure you choose one that best showcases you as a couple and your personalities. Is there a wedding theme you enjoy that we didn’t include? Let us know, we would love to hear about it!

A Mariachi Band Rocks Naylor Hall!

by David Diener

Wedding photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

If you want your wedding to rock, get yourself a Mariachi band. They had an 11 piece mariachi band with horns, vihuela mexicana, violin, guitarrón bass and male and female singers. Since the 1930 has been widely considered the quintessential Mexican folk-derived musical ensemble. The mariachi band has become an institution symbol for Mexican music and culture. Not only did the Mariachi band sound great, they looked great too. They all wore matching charro outfits with lots of details on the sleeves, coat, and pants. They introduced the bride as she came down the aisle, played during cocktail hour and rocked the house during the reception. I can not say enough good things about this band.

The building is an 1839 greek revival-style mansion built by Roswell King the founder of the town of Roswell in northern Fulton County. Many of the historic buildings in Roswell are related to Roswell King. The Roswell Mill was also owned by King and Naylor Hall was the home of the book keeper for the Mill.

Striking a Pose: The Meaningful History Behind Bridal Portraits

by Heather Towhey

If there’s one thing an Atlanta wedding photographer knows, it’s that no wedding album is complete without a glamour shot of the bride. There is always a photo of her, dressed to the nines in her gorgeous gown, smiling and striking a pose. Some people don’t know that this photo is actually called a “bridal portrait” and they have been around for centuries. This week, I want to go into the history and meaning behind the photographs we see today.

Atlanta Wedding Photographer - photography by - www.atlantaartis Atlanta Wedding Photographer - photography by - www.atlantaartis Atlanta Wedding Photographer - photography by - www.atlantaartis

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

Although brides everywhere take a “bridal portrait” nowadays, it first came about among wealthy families, mostly royalty, in Southern Europe in the middle ages. Before cameras, paintings were the only way to really capture significant moments in this time. When there was a wedding on the horizon, the family would commission a painting of the bride from a professional artist to commemorate the event. The bride and the painter would meet at a designated date and location, where she would then sit for a portrait in her full bridal ensemble. This would take place days, possibly weeks before the actual wedding ceremony. Sometimes, during this era, by the time the wedding day arrived the groom (normally a king or a royal) would have only seen his bride through a painting of her commissioned for their engagement. The portrait of the bride was then displayed at the wedding reception and then hung in the home of the new couple to instill family pride in future generations.

The invention of cameras and advancement of photography opened up new opportunities for the bridal portrait. At first cameras were large, so brides still had to go to a studio to get their photo taken. However, around the time of World War II, cameras had gotten smaller and more portable. This meant that brides had more flexibility for their photos. The date and location can be chosen by the bride now, instead being confined to the limits of a studio, and it can all be set up the way the bride wishes in order to showcase her personality. The new technology also made the photographs smaller in size, which meant people could keep them in their pockets or purses, and they were then given as keepsakes to those parted from their lovers by the war. They were also more affordable, meaning more families in more places could afford to have them done. The “bridal portrait” was now accessible to more brides than ever before, and they soon became a common element of weddings. The tradition has even become a staple in places like the South in the United States.

Today, bridal portraits are usually done the day of the wedding, either before or after the ceremony, along with the other photos of the day. Now they are used on a bride’s social media as a profile picture or as part of a digital album to commemorate the special day. Whatever the bridal portrait may mean to you, it can be a special keepsake of a very important milestone that you can hold onto for a long time.

What an Honor Being A Atlanta Wedding Photographer! I get to capture a Paebaek Ceremony!

by David Diener

The ceremony was held in the parents living room. They had set up the folding screen, sitting area, mat and table. The table had food towers with candles for decoration. The nine foods were on the table representing the couple’s life long union. There were dates on the table symbolizing the couple rising early and working hard. There were also bags of chestnuts to help ward off evil spirits. Parents sat on one side of the table and the couple sat on the other side of the table. On the couples side of the table was a tea set for serving. On the parents side were several cups for being served. While the parents are being served the take turns offer advice and blessings to the bridal couple. They also give the the couple white envelopes containing money to help them on their new journey. It is important that the bride and groom receive any gifts with two hands, rather than just one, to show respect.

Thankful for Kind Couples and the Honor of Being a Wedding Photographer

There are certain times when I look at a photo and I am reminded of how lucky I am to be a photographer and that I get to meet so many amazing people in my line of work. When I do engagement photos, I get to know a lot about the couple. I prod them with questions, like how did you meet and how long have you known each other? The one I really like to ask is when did you know you were in love? It is so cool how couples can really open up when you ask them a few questions. You learn about their family, friends and life events that have made them who they are. That is why I love meeting couples and being an Atlanta wedding photographer.

As an Atlanta wedding photographer I have the honor of shooting a lot of engagement sessions at many unique places around the area. I have shot Piedmont Park, Ponce City Market, the Beltline and many other amazing Atlanta landmarks. This week I got to shoot at one of my favorite Atlanta landmarks: the Waffle House! It is my favorite restaurant in Atlanta and the very first Waffle House was located in Avondale Estates.

I got an email a few months ago from a couple who recently got engaged. They live in New York, but were coming to Atlanta to attend a wedding and wanted to do their engagement session while they were here. They had one request: they wanted to do the session where they had their first date: the Waffle House! When I heard this, I was so excited! I knew it was gonna be a blast!

This week’s wedding took place in one of my favorite cities around Atlanta: Roswell Georgia! If you read last week’s blog you got a brief history of the founder of Roswell, Roswell King. His residence, a large gorgeous mansion called Barrington Hall, was named after his son, Barrington. It is the crowning jewel of the historic buildings in the Roswell area.

For the couple’s family photos, they decided to go to the park across the street from restaurant. As luck would have it, there was a wedding going on at that very same park. Since I have shot so many times in that area I suggested we shoot at Barrington Hall. Within a few steps we were in the front yard of that gorgeous mansion, where we had a fun shoot using the gardens, front yard and grand porch! It was just a happy accident that we were so close to such a beautiful location and a few steps from the restaurant. We were so lucky and had a variety of shots done in a few minutes!

This week’s blog takes place at Barrington Hall in Roswell, where I shot a recent engagement session. I met Erin and Aaron (Yes they have the same name!) at Barrington Hall early in the morning to beat the heat and the crowds that sometimes gather at this popular location. On this particular morning, we were the first people there! It was cool in the morning, which made it a perfect time to shoot. There are variety of places at Barrington Hall that are perfect for photos. First you have the gardens, which have some great color and features. Then there’s the grand entrance to the stately manor where the couple can walk and goof off. The highlight in this spot has to be the magnificent columns on the building that go almost to the sky! As a Atlanta wedding photographer you could not ask for more!

This week I did a session with two amazing people that proudly serve the community, making their part of the world a better place to live. They have so much heart and truly care about the city they serve.

As you can see, they are both police officers. They chose to do their engagement shoot in the historic section of Chamblee. This is the strip where the town center, including all the the shops and business, grew out from the nearby railroad line and stop there. A hundred years ago this area was well removed from and Atlanta and was considered small town. Now it is part of the city sprawl and inside the Atlanta perimeter boundary.

It’s no secret that, while a wedding centers around a couple, the focus tends to lean towards the bride. We compliment her accessories and the photographer takes glamour shots of her in her gown. All for good reason, as the bride absolutely deserves to have an amazing time and feel special on her big day. However, as the other half of the happy couple, the groom also deserves to feel special on his big day. The Atlanta wedding photographers have taken many photos highlighting special moments surrounding the groom, so this week we want to showcase some of those photos and shine a spotlight on our awesome Atlanta grooms!
